What a great time to be engaged in higher education! Innovations in teaching pedagogies, expanding understandings of how adults really do learn, and the exponential growth of the Internet form the perfect storm for one of our most endearing values: Opportunity! Never has there been a greater opportunity to learn and teach than today. Online learning, quite literally, is transforming the world of higher education. Graduate Savvy begins with a compelling exploration of online learning as it moves into the heart of the text, which is to help you succeed should you decide to enroll in a web-based program. Topics such as plagiarism, Bloom's Taxonomy, scholarly sources, and academic writing make this a must read for all graduate learners. The Strategies for Success chapters provide invaluable insider knowledge and insights to help learners successfully navigate the courseroom, residencies, comprehensive exam, and dissertation in an online environment. The final chapters discuss post graduation opportunities and offer personal statements from online program alumni sure to provide inspiration as you progress in your academic journey. Graduate Savvy engages readers like no other book in this field. An indispensable book for online learners, as well as anyone interested in the world of online higher education, Graduate Savvy is destined to become the authoritative word on online graduate school survival and success.
Great for Online Learners in a post grad degreeReviewed by Dale R. Shank, 2010-02-02
Didn't think this book would be worth the time or cost, but found it to be very useful and informative for someone taking an online degree program, Masters or PhD. It contains many good tips and ideas that will help you succeed in an online degree program, regardless of where you're going to school....
Most Valuable Resource!Reviewed by Robyn A. Strayer, 2009-11-13
Dr. Green's book is definitely a most valuable resource for anyone deciding to go back to school, particularly in an on-line environment, and especially if for your PhD!! I've used it every quarter. I had the pleasure to personally meet him at a conference, and you could not meet a more down-to-earth, humble individual! His book is full of practical advise, great tips and motivation. I highly encourage it.
Great book for someone considering online educationReviewed by Sheila, 2009-10-02
Reading this book gave me a better understanding about online
education and what I needed to do in order to be successful. The
author is very knowledgeable about the topic of higher education.
However, he might me a little biased because he got his PhD at
Capella University and is a faculty member from that same
institution.
The book compares the pros and cons about both traditional
universities and online. I recommend this book to anyone that is
considering pursuing a higher degree (especially a PhD) either
online or at a traditional campus.
Great Book for Online StudentsReviewed by Lisa L. Petrick, 2008-10-20
This book would be beneficial, especially for those who are new to the online techniques of education or academics. It is helpful in many ways throughout your academic time frame and I found it to be very good. I would recommend it to anyone.
InterestingReviewed by GRR, 2008-09-15
The book is helpful, and does have some useful information. The author apparently is very fond of the word paradigm, as it seems to appear multiple times per page, especially in the early sections. The double spaced type used by the publisher is distracting.
